Duplicating Views and Problem With Duplicating Sections in Plan View

Hi Revit Community,

I am working on project where I need to use same views on lot of different sheets.

I used the same plan view, multiplied it using "Copy as Dependant" and placed it on numerous sheets.Problem occurs
when I place sections from the same view but also on different sheets... Sections are placed over each other (please see attached)...Does anybody know how to formulate filter to remove all sections but the one that refers to applicable sheet? please note that all section are the same family ,i.e. "joinery section" in this case...thanks!

Is there some reason you can't use a referenced section on the other plan views rather than duplicating the section?

ok I will try to explain better:

I duplicate plan view numerous times as dependant and put it on different sheets...each of that view on dedicated
sheets has its own section which is on the same sheet...because all plan views are duplicated as dependant ALL sections appear on plan view since they are in the same place...it is not problem when I have single section on single sheet ,in that case I can use "refer to other view" and place numerous sections on numerous plan views and problem solved

my case is that I have numerous sections on different sheets that in the end are on top of each other in plan view

I was thinking to make filter that will keep only section that is on the same sheet as plan view but i don't know how to formulate filter because all sections are same family type..in my case "joinery section"

Hi,

2 options:

A. Add a project parameter to the Sections (view category) and use a viewfilter to filter on that value (Primary view/dependent view)

Or

B. make sure the dependent views start or end with "_Sub" or the likes. And make a viewfilter (category: Section) 

and filter for the suffix "_Sub".

Add the viewfilter to the view (or viewtemplate) and turn "_Sub" off.

Below a sample of the setup if the dependent views end in _Sub.

Are the dependent views for different areas of a master view or are they the same area?

don't ask me why I am just trying to make my life more easier...manager asked to give the same vanity for example 20 times for each apartment separetely even if they are all the same and can be placed on one single sheet and refered by call outs

phases will not solve the problem....I've have also made all irrelevant sections hidden "hide in view" one by one on each sheet but when I came back they are again visible...even if I clicked apply hide/isolate to that view...but since this is temporary they are coming back...

Phases will show the problem. A plan and a section must be under the same phase or the cut will not show.
Pardon me for trying to understand your intent. Maybe you should too understand your manager's intent.

ok,here is more info to explain the problem...please note that plan and section are on the same phase...
I put plan view on different sheets because they are the same in 20 apartments...I also put sections for 
each plan but sections have different detail number on sheets, e.g. 4,18,6 because they have different positions in each sheet.

Each apartment has its set of sheets,20 apartments have 20 different sheets for joinery. One single plan of tv console is copied 20 times as dependant and placed on the 20 sheets. Sections are not duplicated because they have different detail numbers...problem is that sections are acumulating in plan view. This is my problem...I don't see how phasing can solve this,sorry but I am not following this...

Do you think there is solution for this problem or I need to hide section all call outs?

Since these are on dependent views I feel that you will need to hide by element in the views the sections you don't want to see.

Hi Revit Whisper, thanks for advice,I did that...problem is when I come back to these sheets later all sections come back...I hide them one by one in view and then I "Apply Hide/Isolate"...after some time when I open them all sections come back...what am I doing wrong?

Seems odd...but I was referring to selecting the ones you want to hide and right click and hide by element.

Let's say you need 3 identical plans and sections for 3 apartments. Steps:
- create a plan for apt 1, cut a section for apt 1, both view under phase 1
- create phase 2 and phase 3
- duplicate with detailing the plan and section above, set the views' phase to phase 2, these will be views fr apt 2
- repeat for phase 3, for apt 3
- place apt 2 and apt 3 views on their sheets, respectively

It sounds like your usage/workflow is conflicting with the behavior of dependent views: About Dependent Views

The help link above shows that the following settings can vary between the primary and dependent views:

• Orientation
• Identity Data properties (with the exception of View Template)
• Extent properties (with the exceptions of View Range and Associated Level)
• Scope Box
• Project parameters
• Shared parameters

I tested View Filters and Phase settings and found that they cannot vary between the primary and dependent views.

• The simplest solution, I’m seeing would be to “hide by element” the sections that you don’t want to see in the view.

     If the elements that you’ve hidden are becoming visible again, try using the following process to hide them:

1. Select the section you want to display in the view.
2. Temporarily hide this section.
3. Window select the remaining sections (that you don’t want displayed in the view).
4. Hide the elements in the view (not temporary hide).
5. Reset the temporary hide mode, so that the first element you temporarily hid is visible again.

• Another approach would be to switch from using Dependent views, and creating Independent views (without detailing), so that you are not limited by the constraints between primary and dependent views.

See example (2019) of the approach I laid out above.  There is no manual hiding anything.

Thanks for reply,your approach with hidding section in views is only acceptable solutions I see at the moment...

Dependant views were created as this seemed to be faster workflow...we are working on hotel project that's quite
big and creating independant views were taking significantly more time than multiplying them...

I decided to hide sections in joinery template for now since and see how it goes...
