Hello! I am having a problem with revit that I have never encountered before.
I am attempting to make custom door families by duplicating the existing single flush door and editing the materials. However, when I do this, it completely changes the afore existing door family along with the changes I make with the newly duplicated one. How can I fix this problem?
What are the exact steps you are taking to "duplicate" it?
It sounds like you may just be copying the instance of the door as opposed to making a new door type. All the instances of the same type will share certain properties (materials is often one of them). If you need to change type properties, you need to duplicate the type first, then make changes. This can be done in the Type Properties window. Then the new type can be edited and used to create a new instance of that door type.
Is the problem with the Materials? Sounds like you might be changing a shared Appearance Asset's Properties. A pretty common mistake. Duplicate the Asset before making changes to it. Otherwise, you are changing the Appearance Asset Properties of all the Materials that are using the same Asset. Note: That little hand in the upper left corner (circled in red) indicates the number of Materials that are sharing the Asset.
