Duplicated asset not appearing

Hello,

I am trying to create some alternative color stucco materials in my project.

I duplicated my OTB Plaster. Then I duplicated the asset and tried to assign each unique asset to a unique plaster material. But the duplicated asset, in this case, called Fine - White (2), doesn't appear in my asset browser:

The OOTB asset library is read-only so you need to create an User Asset library.  Then you can send the duplicated asset from the material editor to the user asset library.

Not sure why this always confuses me so much. I still can't edit the assets, only the material appearance. Why wouldn't the color of the asset update when I change the color?

Asset browser (left screen above) is not for editing.  You edit a material appearance asset via the editor window (right screen above).  When done, send the edited material appearance asset back to the asset library if you want to use it for other projects.

@cbt990

Material Library, Document Assets and Material Browser:

  • Appearance Assets are Loaded from the Material Library to the Document
  • Appearance Assets loaded into the document the are not linked to the Material Library Assets
  • Using the material browser users can Edit/Update Appearance Assets in the Document (not the Library)

Updating Material Library Assets:

  • Once an asset is updated in the Document, they can be Sent/Updated in the Library either direct from the Material Editor or from the Assets Browser (latter shown in the below GIF)
  • Once sent to Library user is given the option to overwrite or keep both Appearance assets

Why is the name of the asset appearing in the Material browser as Chablis(2)?

Also, when I duplicate the material to prepare to add the next color type, I am adding the asset to my asset library LaHabra_Stucco where it populates. But then the material in the browser appears to reference the incorrect asset? I have to replace the asset with the asset I just created to finish creating the material. It seems like a redundant step.
