Dual Wall Hatches in Plan

CMU Walls_Fill Patterns.jpg

OK so here's my issue - I need to be able to control how 2 different wall types are shown when cut in plan. Everyone knows that basement perimeter wall hatches should be different than their interior counter parts. has anyone been able to figure out how to graphically show my basement foundation walls differently than my typical wall condition without the need for individual element graphic over rides?? (IE - CMU wall is cross hatched while stud wall assembly is solid fill).

Thanks!

Draw them as separate wall types and give each an unique coarse scale cut pattern.

Thanks for the reply! Only thing is they already are two different wall types (because they have to be) and with that the graphic overrides when setting up a view template you can only control the cut patterns from the family type as a whole not an individual type.

A little back story - I'm roughly in charge for setting up a basic template file for my firm for everyone in the office to use. Not everyone is well versed in all things Revit (or versed at all for that matter) so I need to make these little things as easy as possible for those folks. The transition from CAD to Revit is hanging them up on these little details that mean A LOT.

Below is how you do it.

That solution is a no go unfortunately. It looks like the view temple supersedes all other options. I already have the wall pattern to be set as the corsshatch in the type properties.

The view template is set for all walls to be a particular fill so that other users won't have to worry about walls displaying differently.

So the question lies - is there a way to have two different wall types to display differently under one view template?

There is.  You can create two different filters, one for foundation wall types, and another for other wall types.  Override the filters in template with the hatches you need.

However, it is a not the approach I would recommend because you will run into issues when you add phases to the project.  Phase graphic overrides will be overridden by view's filters.

In general, avoid using overrides as much as you can.  If the family types already provide you with graphic options (case in pint, walls coarse scale patterns), then it's better make use of them.

So just set the view template back to <none>.

Reading through it seems to me I must be missing something? What is the significance of the focus on Coarse Scale Fill Pattern?

If they are separate walls they can both be assigned to unique materials for each of their layers. If walls are assigned to Detail Level: Medium then each layer can show the correct fill pattern according to their assigned material.

He's got a View Template in which there is a VG override for walls.

So his solution would be to either change the View Template - or, if he doesn't want too change all views that have it assigned - just get rid of it for this view and get rid of the Wall override.

He seems resistant to that for some reason.
