Drop Curb For Model By Face Roof?

Hi guys,

 

I have added multiple paths to my project using an in place mass and a model by face roof, I then added fascia to the roof to complete the path/curb look. Upon rendering and have a look at my model, I noticed the curbs are obviously not dropped at the drive ways where they should be.

As the roof by face only follows the mass in place to my knowledge there is no way to modify the curb/path etc to make it drop outside the drive ways? If anyone knows how I would really appreciate the help.

can you use the floor with modified sub-elements instead of the roof by face? So you can drop it at driveways?

Edit the Curb Sweep Profile and lower it via the Vertical Offset. 

 

....or do you want a Horizontal Offset? You can do that too.

Is it possible to assign a floor to a CAD import so that it follows the levels of my topographical surface?

 

Also, if i where to use a floor how would I model my curb? Using a model by face roof is very easy using the fascia tool.

Hey Brad,

 

If I were to lower the fascia sweep then I think I would just have a dropped curb but a path that doesn't drop with it? As the model of face roof would remain the same. Unless i'm wrong of course.

Hi Kushal,

 

I have just been playing around with the model by face floor and it doesn't seem I am able create a floor that follows my surface like a roof can. I am sure this would work on a model that has a flat surface however as I have experimented in a blank project.

Yes, you're right. I misinterpreted your screenshot.  What I see in your screenshot is that the sidewalk (not curb) is higher than the driveway.  Seems to be an easy fix though. Modify Sub Elements of the sidewalk slab to lower the height of the protruding edge.  Does this not work for you?

Thanks for getting back to me.

 

As far as I know I am unable to modify sub elements as the path is made from a Model By Face Roof, not a floor.

Is this what you suggested or have I misinterpreted what your response?

Are you saying that the Driveway and Sidewalk are created from the same Mass, and that the Mass has a smooth transition between faces?   I would guess then, that you selected the wrong face to apply roof geometry to.  Easy fix if so. Edit or recreate the Roof by Face.

Hi Brad,

 

The path is made of one mass and the drive ways etc are mode up of split topography. What I was getting at was I think that i'm unable to edit sub-elements in my model by face roof, unless I'm missing something which could easily be the case lol.

@Anonymous : I have examined your file and see nothing wrong with it.  I placed a Section through all of the driveways, and all of their slopes transition smoothly in Section View.

I'll tell you what, @Anonymous; why don't you post a plan view screenshot with the area in question circled.  Maybe I inspected the wrong ones.

I think I understand the essence of your question now. You want to know how to edit Roof by Face elements independently of the Mass Face they are created from and hosted to. Is this correct?  If so, you cannot.  The only way to do that, would be to change the Mass. Since you created your Mass from a DWG Import, you would need to create a new DWG from Revit Toposurface Element, and then import this new DWG into a Mass editing environment to create a new Mass and Host for new Roof by Face elements.  Does that make sense? Bottom line: modify/correct the point elevations of the Toposurface you are exporting to DWG.

Yes that is correct. So are you saying I need to edit the CAD then import it to the shape i wish my model by face roof to be?

As an alternative (not sure if better) method you could use you imported geometry (inside mass family) to create series of structural beams - select path with 3D snap option on. Then create roof with option "by support" and select those beams. Upside is that you can now modyfy the roof in Revit, additional the beam could work as a curb.
