Drone output to revit/autocad

Hi all, 

I've managed to export a drone deploy point cloud survey data which is in .obj file format to Meshlab where I then convert it to .dwt file extension and then exporting this .dwt from Meshlab to AUTOCAD/REVIT. However, when I open the model in REVIT/AUTOCAD, it just shows the mesh object of the site without the materials/texture on it.

Does anyone know how to import/attach the texture/materials to AUTOCAD/REVIT model please by any chance?

the view is 2d wireframe currently.. have you tried changing it to shaded, render mode etc..

Hi Ganesh, thanks ever so much for the response!

Unfortunately I still have no luck despite me changing the view to render mode, it just show it as a grey render rather than the real photo/pictures. I've now tried exporting the drone model to Recap Photo, it's uploaded OK but again, stuck on the workflow to export it to AUTOCAD/REVIT.. will keep trying!

For Revit it is simple....   Insert Tab...Point Cloud....select the ReCAP project.

I don't use much Autocad anymore, but it looks like you just need to click the Autocad Recap button....

Thanks so much for the response! I've been scratching my head as to how I can export the data from Recap photo which is on .rcm to Recap Project (!) - I presume I need to convert it to .rcs (!) for the Recap Pro. I've tried converting it to PTS from Recap Photo to Recap Pro with the hope I can then convert it further to .rcs but for some reason it then came out as just dotted pixels.. Maybe I need to adjust the pixel /m2...

AutoCAD isn't really built for that kind of visualization work - if you manage to get it to work, you'll probably bring the program to it's knees.  When using design software like AutoCAD and Revit you're more often interested in the technical side , which means fast performance over pretty pictures.  I'd recommend switching tools.

Since OBJ has the textures you're looking for, you might consider using Navisworks to bring together the Revit model and the OBJ file, along with any other models e.g. vendor-supplied IGES/SAT files.

Thank you so much! Yes, I think so too. I was treating Revit as a 'one tool that fits all' - which is absolutely not what it's supposed to be..

My initial thought is to see how we can bring the drone model (in obj) to Revit where students will be able to quickly visualise the site captured by the drone in 3D and 2D (similar to a GIS map of a site) where they can measure the site and perhaps view the site in the real texture and then they can populate their building designs into the particular site map..

For now, it seems that I will need to use either photo capture or drone deploy app to show students the site in 3D based on the drone model and perhaps get the site imported to AUTOCAD then REVIT for the masterplan design as a wire mesh..
