Drawing Order in Project Browser and Print order

I am using Revit 2016 for the construction documents for a small mobile solar-powered laboratory, and I cannot figure out how to rearrange the order of the drawings in the project browser. Right now, they are organized alphabetically, but I need them to be organized by discipline (i.e. G sheets followed by C, S, A, I, P, M, and E). I already know how to make a sheet list, and I have followed a few tutorials that let me associate sheet order in those schedules, but when I update the sheet order, it doesn't update in the project browser. My work around for this has been to print to a PDF and then manually reorder the sheets one at a time. As my drawing set is nearing 50 pages, I would like to not have to do this any more.

You need to customize the Browser Organization for Sheets to use the same logic for sorting as your sheet list. Create a new Browser Organization for your Sheets browser section then make that your current Browser selection. Keep in mind that you'll end up with them listed by whatever technique you used to sort the sheets properly ie. 1,2,3,4 or G,C,S,A etc.

Could you possibly break that down into steps. This is my first adventure into customizing the properties browser in a method that is not alphabetical.

  • Right Click on Sheets in the Project Browser > choose Browser Organization
  • Select one of the existing choices other than All (can't alter that one) and click Edit, or just click New
  • There are two Tabs (Filtering and Sorting/Grouping) in the dialog, similar to the tabs we see while editing a schedule
  • You wrote that you figured out how to sort a sheet list (schedule)
  • Use the same parameter to assign the first Sort By value under the Sorting/Grouping tab
  • When you're finished just be sure to check the box for the type you edited or created
  • You should find the Browser sorting for Sheets is now affected by your chosen parameter.

That worked to sort the order of the drawings, but now they are all represented by the order number rather than the sheet information. Also, when I go to print the drawings, they are still in their original alphabetical order and doesn't actually save me any time. Is there any way for it to display the page number and name while also changing the order in the "select views/sheets" dialogue while printing?
