Double Footing Issue

Hey guys. Attached I have an image of the issue I am having.  I created a wall that has 4" Conc, 2" Rigid, 8" Conc, then an interior 1 5/8" Metal Stud Wall.  The Precast Concrete portion will run from the footings to the parapet. The Metal Stud Wall will only run from the floor level to the ceiling level.  I want to attached a footing to (obviously) only the bottom of the wall. But when I use my footing tool, It pops a footing below the concrete and below the Metal Stud wall. I can't adjust these footings seperately and I see no options on how to force to to only give me one footing.  Any ideas?!

Not sure whats going on in that image and which is the parapet level Ideally this should have been forseen before modeling the walls but one can do either of the following

1. Use 2 separate walls on top of each other (1 foundation to parapet and 2nd from parapet upwards) then place the foundation on what would be the foundation wall
2. Use 2 separate walls on infront of each other with different bottom offset (the one with the studs starts at 0 the precast with -ve offset)
3. Model it as a stacked wall
4. Use Excentricity to offset the foundation to the direction opposit to the studs

All the above may be doable however more detail description is required so one can decide which is best to domaybe the lateral view to see whats going on on the other side

The parapet height isn't shown in this image because it isn't relevant to my issue... I am trying to avoid breaking this wall up into a bunch of pieces (like splitting the wall, or having a stacked wall) so I can easily adjust the walls if need be.   

I just don't understand why it is putting in 2 footings with one click.  One where it should go at the bottom of the foundation wall, then another at the bottom of my metal stud wall. I have never seen this before. 

If I have to split the wall into 2 pieces I will, it just seems like this is something that Revit should be able to do. And it would make my life alot easier if I can keep this wall as one element.

I'm not sure ... If it is straight wall on a flat surface and it is intact not modified; if you place a foundation on it using Wall Foundation tool; it should one straight foundation at the bottom of the wall...

So one reason why one sees 2 foundtaion in the section is that the profile of the wall has beed edited

Another is that it's a wall following topography ie: bottom is not flat plane so foundtaion will be cut and placed only at the straight stretch

 One can't see what is going on on the lateral view of the wall...not sure if it is worth mentioning that execution wise; what you have there is not how it should be but again the design part is your call

All wall heights throughout are the same, there is no slope. and I have not edited the profile of the wall.  I am seeing 2 footings in this view because their are 2 footings in place. I have attached a 3D view of the wall to show my 2 footings (both are placed with 1 click of the mouse, and I am unable to manipulate them individually) The 3D view shows what is going on pretty clearly. 

I did try a stacked wall and the footings comes in only at 1 location (and the correct location) but then my wall sweeps don't work properly.

I just can't win on this one! lol

It could be the way you created the Extentions...(Bottom offset)...VS layer wall type

I think I will end up having to either split the wall or do a stacked wall so that everything is correct. I don't want to have to adjust my Base extension because then my walls are incorrect. I got pulled off this project to get another one done quick so I haven't had a chance to look at your option 2. When I finish this project up I plan on checking that out a little closer. But my guess is I will end up having to split it or stack it! I will keep you posted.

That's confusing 🙂 ...I thought it was what I suggested in the first reply and you said it's not what you want!...

Anyways adding top/base extension doesn't make the wall wrong if you need to stick with that; it (the wall) or the foundation will just need to be handled differently (ie: parts). What makes the wall wrong is placing it to serve a purpose which it is not intended to serve.

Ideally; one should model things in Revit following the way (best practice) things are sequenced/built in real life

Did you ever get this issue solved?  I am having the same trouble (v2018.2). I didn't seem to have this trouble in the past so maybe it's something to do with the layers in the wall having some property attached that makes them want to have a 2nd footing?

I've found this an issue with cavity brick walls As soon as you want to have a leaf sitting on a slab it bugs out. My best workaround is to create a parametric slab edge profile that doubles up as a footing all inclusive. Not useful if you need to check it for structural analytics but for general modeling it works the best. not great with filters when color coding but better than 2 footings!

Split the double footing to parts and exclude the wrong one, as shown in @RDAOU 2nd screencast.

Just came across this issue and while the above mentioned workaround (Parts) is a good one, scheduling and possibly hosting of elements such as walls/doors is thrown off in the wall. Autodesk should fix this so that footings are only attached to core/structure of the wall as any masonry veneer will just share a footing if required.

@Anonymous Wanted to have a look what's happening there, but I can't seem to replicate the issue... Although above collection of replies will probably solve the issue, could you add a .rvt just with wall and the footing? 

Also if the position for the wall doesn't change anymore, it might also be an option to create the footing in a different way.

Can't seem to replicate it either.  Maybe things have changed from 2016 to 2019.

I think this was resolved in 2019.X

In previous version (16/17/18) there seems to have been a bug where when the wall assembly was modified and had bottom extension the foundation tool would then add 2 element, (1 at the bottom extension and 1 at the locked original base) 

But its no longer the case in 2019 and 2020

Seems to either re-appeared in 2021 or never went away.  Here I have a CMU core and stucco finish, with the stucco finish base unlocked and offset 2' vertically.  Wall footings attached to both the CMU and the stucco. 😑

I am having the same issue.  Something to do with a negative base extension.  I temporarily made the extension go down (positive).  Added the footing then dragged the base extension up.  Must be dragged not set in properties.  Then is worked.  It's a bug.

You could change the wall join to square off and that will fix the double footing.
