Doors and phases

The probles is as follows. Revit 2021. Windows 10

I have an existing wall with an opening in it ( this opening is created as in place void, to have posiibility to phase it). This opening is demolished, and in new construction phase ,in place of this opening, new wall appears automatically. Then, I put a door in this wall, which partially sits in this new wall.

And now when i open existing plan, where I placed doors in new phase, a wall appears in existing phase.

How doors, that are created in new construction phase can affect on existing phase?

The behavior you described is related to the In-Place void you have used. If you use a Family for the opening (a Generic or Window or Door template...etc) it functions as expected...there are 2 in the OOTB Revit library you can use if you do not want to model them (see attached .rfa)

See GIF Below

Existing Phase:

  1. Wall + Opening (opening modeled using window family template)
  2. Phase Filter (Either show New or Show Complete)

New Construction Phase:

  1. Opening Demolished
  2. Door placed Partially overlapping the Existing Opening Demolished in step 1
  3. Phase Filter: Show Previous + Demo + New

Conclusion: Behaves as expected

Your modelling and demolishing should follow the same steps as the actual construction. Here are a series of steps as I understand your case:

  1. Model the existing wall in the phase called "Existing";
  2. Model the opening as a rectangular opening in the phase called "Existing";
  3. Model a new infill wall in the phase called "New construction";
  4. Place a door in the new infill in the phase called "New construction".

By demolishing the void, Revit will fill the opening as though the opening never existed. This is where the "existing" wall is coming from. This also allows you to specify the new wall composition which may differ from the existing composition.

Hope this helps,

- Place a curtain wall with no mullions and Empty System Panel under Existing Phase to create the opening in the existing wall (auto embed or cut geometry)

- Demolish the curtain wall in New Phase

- Place the door in New Phase

So the Existing Condition is this?

Phase10.png

..and the New Condition is this?

Phase20.png

Then why not Edit the Profile of the Existing Wall?

Phase30.png

Phase40.png

...and fill the "hole" with a wall in the New Construction Phase?

Thanks, it was this this In place void that messed up. With familly void it's ok. Still don't know why it makes a difference.

Different types of opening has different behaviors to suit different purposes,

  • a loadable insert/generic family is not similar to an in-place
  • both the above are not similar to the Opening tools on the ribbon (Wall/Face/Shaft/Dormer). The Latter for instance inherits the Phase of the element it is placed in and not demolish-able
