Door placement not apparent

I am working on a Revit LT 2018 tutorial and need to place a door. I have loaded the families but as soon as I activate the door command, Revit returns a gray circle with a line through it and I am not able to place the door. There is no apparent way to change this result. I have placed doors before and had no problems with it. Am I in the wrong mode? Has anyone encountered this problem before? Not sure how to move past it.

Are you in the plan? Have you tried to insert doors in a 3D view? Phases? Filters? A lot of times a filter will go 'rogue' - and create trouble. Is the Workset editable? Just a few possibilities.....

Thank you for the input. It turns out that I finished the last session in 3d view but had the view cube set to "plan", which appears to be a different condition than the preset plan view in the project browser. I am surprised by the necessity of being in plan to place openings but...Lesson Learned!
