Don't select Component. Click on Architecture>>Door. It will recognize all door families that are loaded into the project.

If he is activating the Component tool, and then is able to select a "door" from the types drop-down list in the Properties palette, then that "door" isn't a Door family at all. Because of course you have to activate the Door tool to get Doors.

So the problem is a bit confusing the way it was stated.

If he is actually activating the Door tool, but is unable to select a host wall for placement of a door, I think the possibilities revolve around the inability to select walls in the first place.

Maybe the desired wall is in a workset that isn't editable.

Maybe the desired wall is in an option set that isn't active.

Maybe the desired wall is shown only as an underlay, but the Select Underlay Elements toggle is off.

Maybe the desired wall is not actually a System Family: Wall at all, but instead something that was constructed in another way?

Or maybe the desired door isn't a door at all, but a curtain wall door.

You're going to have to explain further than "it did not work."

Maybe something like, "I clicked on the Architectural > Door tool. I selected a loaded Door type from the drop-down list in the Properties palette. I hovered over a wall in my active Floor Plan view but only get the little circle-with-line-through-it cursor." Or maybe, "When I try to place a Door I get a warning message that none of the elements I've created are visible." Or something helpful. Help us help you.

WHAT did you try and WHAT is the failure?

Thank you for helping me I didn't know how to explain the problem I was having! you worded it perfectly  because the problem I was having was that I clicked on the Architectural > Door tool. I selected a loaded Door type from the drop-down list in the Properties palette. I hovered over a wall in my active Floor Plan view but only get the little circle-with-line-through-it cursor

Was the wall created in your model or in a linked file?  Can you highlight the wall and share a screenshot of its properties?

Try to Place door in " Plan " View..not in 3D view..

you can place in 3D view but try axonometric or at some angle..

You can even place door, windows in elevation view, section view, ceiling plans...

Cheers!
