Does any body know what the problem is? I get these sun ray type distortion lines from the model in realistic view. I did not have this problem with any models in Revit Lt16 yet this problem started on installation of Revit Lt17. I had my computer maintenance install a brand new high spec graphics card and software but still this problem.

Do you have any 3D CAD imports in that project?

It looks like something modelled in CAD that didn't translate correctly once imported into Revit. Check your families.

And upload the project here, so we can have a look.

Thank you for your response.

I generated the model on my Laptop, but the problem arises on my desktop (which is much higher spec than the laptop). However, I think your advise is going in the right direction as I did import some items into one of the model and may have imported parts from that model to this model. I did notice that if the rays are traced to a wall and that wall is deleted then some of the rays disappear also.

I have uploaded two of the models with this issue.

Thanks again.

This kind of weird 'rays' are typically caused by the graphics card. It has problems translating the data to a computer image.

Sometimes this is just an incompatibility of the graphics card and sometimes it can be resolved by changing the graphics card drivers (older or newer ones).

If not done already you also can try to switch of hardware acceleration in Revit (options menu).

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

The strange thing about this occurrence is that the problem only occurred when I downloaded Revit Lt 2017. This problem never occurred when using 2016 version. I had the desktop custom built. I recently had it checked by another independent IT expert and they advised that the machine is up to spec. The substituted a top specification graphics card temporarily into the machine but that did not sort the problem. However, as this problem does not occur on my lower specification laptop it must be something tto do with this particular computer. Would you mind opening the attached file and change the 3D view to realistic rendering to see the result. If you do not get the rays then it is definitely my computer.

Thanks to both of you for all your help.

I only have Revit 2017, not Revit 2017 LT.

@gcace hello, try to install latest updates and hot fixes from autodesk, updates your graphics card driver to the latest and untick use hardware acceleration and see if same results. thanks

Updated drivers, reinstalled Revit Lt suite, tried Autodesk repair patches (two of three refused to load) and turned on/off accelerator.

Still same results.

Thank you all for your help.

The problem has now developed on my Laptop also. Two separate computers with the same issue.

This can only be a software problem.

If I get an answer from my Autodesk provider support I will come back and post the answer.
