Display of layered families in 3D views

Something I've found just now, which has thrown me.

 

Looking at the example of a floor, if a section box cuts through it, as on the right face below, the layers that make up the floor show.

 

The face that is not cut, on the left, is showing the lowest layer in the floor buildup, as the whole floor face.

 

Is there a way to control this, so it is shown correctly on the face, as per the actual construction?

 

Similar occurs with walls, so a wall simply has a face, with a grey mass at the end faces, unless wrapping is turned on, but even then it isn't layered.

would the option of converting floor to parts and setting view to show parts solve your problem? otherwise no, elements need to be cut to show layers
