Displacement set paths

Hi,

I am trying to get a displacement path to appear correctly. I displace the pink block vertically from the top of the blue block:

When I displace the blue block,  the path doesn't change. 

I have tried nesting one displacement set within the other but the result is the same.

As the clip shows, the lines extending up from the blue surface to the pink block adjust with the displacement changes, but the ones from the pink to the blue don't adjust.

I followed this tutorial and made everything into a displacement set at the beginning. With a bit of trial and error I was able to get it to work.
