Detail Library Project Files As Workshared

Hi all,

We have a Revit project file for each of the major materials (Concrete, Steel, etc) which contains drafting views of all of our typical details. We use it to quickly grab details from on all of our projects and it works well.

Currently we have a system of folders and manually copy the master file into the backup folder before making edits, to prevent the master files from ever being negatively affected or deleted. We also keep a copy of the current file in a different folder just as double-insurance. It's a bit cumbersome and annoying.

I was wondering if it might make sense to convert the project files to workshared such that storing of backup & previous versions is automatically handled by Revit? Would there be any disadvantages to take note of?

The other positive if these files are workshared is that in the event of total data loss on the server, someone would likely have a local copy available to restore from.

Hi @kirsch33 ,

A worksharing file is a good option to save your previous saved copies. But if you like double insurance than you need to backup copies as you do now. The best solution would be to have a cloud worksharing model. That would give you more protection.

Further idea. Your main file can sit in the cloud. It can be copied from there to the location where people expect to find it. Any known automation can be applied for copying.
