Detail item hatch pattern

Hi,

I'm trying to get a filled region to show up in a window family.  The region is created as detail component and nested into the window.  However for some reason the hatch only shows up if the view is set to wireframe.  Other lines that are drawn in the detail component show as expected.

the two images attached show the problem - the diagonal line on the two lower panels is the one that resides in the detail component.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

cheers

K.

I've tried the same thing...wanting to have a glass hatch built into the window family...got it to physically work, changing size with the window's type and everything, but never could figure out how to get it visible in the project. It would only show in wireframe mode or when the window was selected.

If anybody else has insight, I'd like to know too.

Hi Alisder,

File attached - it's a quick and dirty recreation to show the problem.  If you edit the family you will see the hatch shows fine in the hidden line display mode but only shows up in wireframe in the project file....

The issue is the opening in the window.

If you tab select so you have the actual opening cut out for the window, you will see there are 2 check boxes in the green options bar, you need to tick to say the opening is "transparent in elevation" so the you can see the hatch you placed. I done this on your window and a few tests and it has worked every time. I also made sure that none of the window geometry is visible in "front/back" or "left/Right"

The opening seems to take priority in elevations/sections over anything else to show up as a solid area

Give it a try and let me know if it fixes it 🙂

hope this helps

Hi Alisder,

With much excitment I've just tried that... alas though it doesn't seem to be working... could you post your RVT file so that I can see what I'm missing.

I should add that I'd never noticed that little check box before so thanks for pointing that out, it's good to know.

Okay, so it could possibly be the fact that i removed the hatch detail item, then replaced it making sure i place it on the "exterior" work plane.

So, remove the hatch detail item, choose to place it again, but before you do, in the green options bar set the work plane to "Existing" then place it.

see if that works.

After trying this now on multiple windows, my previous comment seems to be void haha

Try this and keep me posted.

I have attached the OOTB Revit window with a hatch visible in elevation.

Hi Alisder,

I went back to the beginning and create a new family and it works exactly as you have outlined.  It definitely needs the detail region removing and reapplied though for some reason which might be worth others bearing in mind.

Many thanks for pointing out this little gem of information - I hope some others will find it useful too.  Smiley Happy

Hi,

it has been a while since the topic shown up, but I would like to have a voice in discussion.

I was looking for a solution to the similar problem. Hatch (nested detail item) in the air terminal family wasn't visible in hidden line mode. Your posts were helpful, so thank You.

I've noticed that changing the workplane of the hatch don't work. But, changing background parameter in hatch family from Transparent to Opaque does.

Hope it will be helpful for some if You.

Cheers, Michael.

I'm having a similar issue with a Detail Item (solid hatch) nested into a Light Family.  The images show the problem.

Image 1: Left is the Detail Item loaded directly in and Right is the Detail Item nested into a light family.  The solid fill does not show in 'Hidden Line' mode.  Only in wireframe. (Image 2 shows the same condition in Wireframe view mode)

How can I have the nested detail component display correctly in Hidden Line mode.

@lukekvasnicka

You may want to share the family because I can have the nested detail item shows correctly with a solid hatch.

Am I able to attach .rfa files.  Whenever I try to add it as an attachment I click post and the page just refreshes.

They screwed up the attach mechanism of the forum. Upload to some cloud and share the link.

Thanks for taking a look.  Here is the lighting family I'm using.

The reason is all of your 3d geometry is invisible.  Set at least one piece visible (you can still turn it off for plan/rcp/elev) then the hatch will show.  You also do not need to create a new ref plane to host it.  Place it directly on the plan view of the family.
