Hi, Tom.Kirkpatrick,

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums! I'm Judy from Revit Technical Support, and I'll be happy to help you out with your question. In order to do so, I'll need more information about exactly what you're doing and what happens. First, what version of Revit are you using? Do you have all available updates installed?

When you export to dblink, do you get an error message?

Are other categories being exported?

Have you checked the information in the Revit Help about how to Export Revit Data to a Database?

Any details you can provide will be helpful. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Best,

Judy_S

Hi Judy,

I have Revit 2018.3

I get no error messages when exporting using DB Link and all other categories are exported, except Roads as mentioned.

Hi, Tom.Kirkpatrick,

Does this happen on any Revit model, or just this particular one? That would be a good first step in finding out if this is a problem in the Revit model or in something else.

Do you have all Revit updates installed?

Are you using MS Access or ODBC?

Can you reproduce the problem in a new session of Revit, and then post the journal from this session so I can review it? Please change the year in the path in this link if you're using something other than Revit 2018.

Thank you and I'll look forward to your reply.

Best,

Perhaps because Roads is not a native Revit category (Site Designer?).  You may want to look under Site category in the database.

Hi, Tom.Kirkpatrick,

Just wanted to check with you to see if you still need help with the DB Link question. Will you be sending me the files, or did ToanDN's comment explain why roads were not being exported?

Let me know if there's anything else I can do. Thanks!

Best,

It appears to be a native category.  If you create a new project using an OTB template you will see it as a model category...

Judy, I am using DB Link with MSSQL and ODBC.  Testing with an OTB template you'll see the model category but the table isn't exporting.  Can you test your end and let me know please.

Hi, Tom.Kirkpatrick,

I've researched this issue further and learned that the Roads category was built into Revit for future use; at present, it's a placeholder for future functionality, so although you can see it in the Visibility Graphics dialog box and elsewhere, there are no Revit objects of this category to export. You can verify this by looking in the Project Browser, where the Roads category does not appear; this is because there are no objects of the Roads category in the project. If you try to load a Roads family, you'll find that there are no loadable Roads families, nor are there any system families for this category.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best,

Hi Judy,

I am using the roads category via Dynamo to generate road geometry in the 3D model via Direct Shapes method.  The Road category is useful to separate from other element categories such as Wall.  At present the DB Link export function isn't needed but I can see that in future it will be.  If needed I can use Floor as an alternative meantime.
