Cutting objects in Floor plan ( some do, some don't)

Hello all,

Why is it that some object do cut at the cut plane and some don't?

Is there a setting that I've missed?

Hi,

This is a combination of things.

First what categories are they?

Doors/Windows have a cut setting in the Family itself and doesn't use the Project cut height.

I normally use Doors/Windows categories as hosts for Shared nested generic model families, those cut as expected.

Also if in the ViewRange the top is set to high you risk that the whole family becomes visible (as it's not cut)

Solution for this is to place a hidden modelline in the family, vertically so that gets cut and only shows the geomety cut (so if it's higher placed than the cutline it's not visible no matter how high the top is set). I use this to display a dashed line onto the floorplan to show position of dakvenster.

And then the "zonnepaneel", this will be a electrical Equipment, and those aren't cuttable.

But recently I discovered that since R2022 or R2023 you can make any family cuttable (if it's category isn't cuttable), there's a option like the "Work plane based" option to make it a cuttable family (not the Cut With Voids When Loaded" option!

(I also believe in one of the R2022 updates it's also introduced)

Good luck.

Refer to the below link on Autodesk Knowledge Network for the list of cuttable vs non-cuttable families

Help | About Non-Cuttable Families | Autodesk

Help | About Cuttable Families | Autodesk

If you wish them to be cut, edit such families and change their category to one which is cuttable. If you wish to preserve the same family category of the non-cuttable ones, then you would need to work with nested shared components
