Cutting nested families...

I would like to cut the geometry (generic model family), and I have so far been unable to find a way to accomplish this.

I am open to suggestions for any way to cut an opening in a family, or perhaps a different approach to model this.

Make nested family shared and cut them with face based void family.

Make sure Void if nested is checked.

Thanks for the replies, but face based void families don't seem to cut nested generic families, see attached (small rectangular voids to test)

Thanks, I see so a face based void family can cut a single instance of the nested family.

So for the actual large cut I need to individually place face based voids on each nested family, and then try and line up to make larger cut I would like to have?

If that the case, then keep the original family you have, not what I shared, load it in a project, place a solid (not void, very important) mass, and cut geometry.

Excellent, thanks a lot, I was definitely not aware that was possible!

I have a similar question. Having just read through a lot of threads I can't find the answer although this feels closest.

As the original post, within a host family (not a project) I would like to cut multiple nested families that are part of a parametric array. I have tried face-based void families but this does not work because the solids are an array and the families needing to be cut will vary depending on the total height of the panel.

This is for a cladding panel (host family) made up of angled boards (nested family) that I then need to square off at the top and bottom with a void in the host family to form the final panel. Screenshot and family attached in R2024. Thanks!
