Cutting Geometry in a Parametric Array

One of the issues that I have found with grouping and associating objects in a parametric array is that it appears that there isn't a way to cut the objects with a void extrusion. Is there a way to copy an object without grouping and associating?
I have found a way to do exactly what I want to do but it is a bit of a pain. In the attached picture, the stud wall is one family, with the components (studs, plates, etc. The studs are the parametric array of course) nested in that family, the opening is another family built in the same manner. I was able to cut all the studs through the openings by creating an extrusion in place, using the cut geometry tool, then hiding the extrusion.
I could nest the opening family inside the wall family, but it still appears that there is no way to automatically cut the geometry with a void extrusion if the geometry is a part of the grouped and associated parametric array. Any help would be appreciated.
PS, the reason that I decided on families to do this is because I need the ability to control every component precisely and independently, create schedules, tags, etc.
