I am just trying to cut a rectangle shape out of the sill plate so it fits around the girder and I don't have to use 3 different pieces of wood to fit around the lvl.

You can edit the sill plate ( family ) and put a parametric ( length and width )cut/void
Probably you can give visibility as well ( instance ) so show that cut or no cut..

Hope that helps

I cannot visualize your construction.  Are you talking about the sill plate of a wall resting  on the girder, or the sill plate on which the girder rests?  Either way, I don't understand why the sill plate breaks, or is removed, at the girder. Can you post a picture or file to help illustrate?

Are you asking how to do it in Revit or in the field?
