Custom Materials Library

I have loaded a manufacturer's material Revit file (they offer both .rvt and .rfa formats) into a project, but now I am trying to save that material file into my materials library so that I can access it from other projects or families.  How do I do that?

What do you mean? Materials in a ADSKLIB file or in an RVT or RFA file?

If you mean that you downloaded Manufacturer's Families and Projects that are using custom Materials, then you can save them to your Favorites Folder if you like.  If they have Custom Images associated with them, I would suggest saving the Images to your C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\Textures\1\Mats folder and then re-pathing the Image under the Appearance Tab before saving to Favorites.

If you mean ADSKLIB, the follow the instructions here to make them accessible:

@lorissa

The following Revit Help video link below has the information your are looking for.

Video: Manage a Materials Library

According to the main help page, copying materials can be done by :

1. Drag-and-drop the material into the library.
2. Right-click the material Add to<Library Name>.

Hope this helps,
