Custom ceiling cloud - tag and host objects like a normal ceiling

I have ceiling clouds that will repeat many times. There is no custom ceiling family.  I'd like to be able to host objects on it and setup a tag that will display the ceiling type and height from the floor on my RCPs

What's the best way to do this?  I guess I just have to use a generic family?

When we have ceiling clouds, they are tagged using the regular ceiling tags that we normally use. If you have ceiling tags set up per company standards, then that would be the best route to take - unless there has been a decision made to create a custom ceiling tag for clouds. If the use of a generic ceiling tag for this is blessed by the Powers-That-Be, then go for it!

Are they in weird shape and form?  Why can't you create them using the ceiling tool?

We want it to be a family because it will likely repeat over 100 times (massive office building) and it has elements like integrated diffusers, edge profiles, and lights.  If it's just a ceiling we have to manually put the edges on 100 times.  I try to avoid using groups because they are bad for performance and harder to edit without parameter controls.

Makes sense.  I guess you can use Generic model and nest other devices in it if necessary.  Create a generic model tag family that looks like a ceiling tag and call it a day.
