Why won't Autodesk support NVIDIA GTX video cards?

We are being held in the dark ages by being forced to order workstations with the Quadro video cards when the GTX cards have higher speeds and greater image quality.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for reaching out to us.  Would you elaborate what exactly do you mean that Autodesk software doesn't support NVidia GTX cards?

Revit Live does run like a charm on NVidia GTX 1080 card with VR feature.

I found this topic in Revit Architecture forum that may be helpful: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/nvidia-gtx-1080-vs-quadro-m4000/m-p/7388764#M163124

Best regards,

Libei

We are being told that if we run Revit software on a workstation with a graphics card other than those listed below, we are in violation of our licensing agreement.

Please list contact info as to who told you this so Autodesk can get in touch with them.

Who are you referring to? Are you suggesting we identify the Autodesk representative who told us that this is their requirement?

I am not sure how that will help in addressing the hardware requirement issues inquired about here.

Autodesk even posts the same information on their website: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/syscert?siteID=123112&id=18844534&results=1&stype=graphic&produ...

@Anonymous

The link clearly says these cards are recommended and certified.  It does not even say they are required.  There is zero information suggesting using other cards violating anything.  Where did you read it from?

The link you provided on what Autodesks has posted states clearly that these are "recommended system hardware".

No where does that posting state that if you "run Revit software on a workstation with a graphics card other than those listed" that you are in violation of the licensing agreement.

This again goes back to my original question as to who gave you this information?

If it's not true, then you don't have to worry about it and your problem is resolved.

What is the point of certifying something if it isn't required or recommended?

The information indicated to me was not read somewhere, but verbally communicated by an Autodesk representative.

At this point the issue is apparently closed and there are no hardware conditions that violate licensing or use of the software.

It is simply a condition of what is the best hardware to perform the functions desired while operating within the Revit platform. And since we are not running our own tests, we therefore cannot confirm which video card functions best in any type of hardware setup. And as long as Autodesk does not dictate the standards for hardware against their licensure for their product, then the issue is mute.

Certification in this case means that Autodesk has tested those particular brands of hardware and they are deemed stable when used with their software.  Do not confuse the word "Recommended" to mean the same as "Required".  You can use either their "Recommended" hardware or choose to ignore it and use something totally different.  If an Autodesk representative did tell you that you are "violating software licenses" when you don't use the Autodesk Certified hardware this needs to be reported to Autodesk because they are not representing Autodesk properly and can be fined.
