Curtain wall IFC export up through many floors building story

It seems to me that the best practice concerning CW is a debate, if the curtain walls should go through many levels or be level to level. During the process of working with these glass facade it makes perfect sense that a curtain wall should span from level 1 to level 6 when the floor height is not the same in different levels. This means you have the control of mullions and panels on a single facade. The cost is quantities per floor and that if you export IFC that these facades are bound to level one and won´t appear in the IFC viewer if you filter out the floor they are assigned to.

Revit has an option to export IFC walls by building story, which means that wall get assigned to each level and divided per level even though they are bound to level 1 and run up to level 6. So here is my question:

Is there a way to get the same function for curtain walls so Revit cuts and assign the curtain walls to each level they go through just like Revit does concerning walls when exporting IFC files?

Hi

Keep different walls for varying level heights..

You may group the curtain wall, and copy on all those levels where the height would remain same..

and separate of varying heights..

You have few options to achieve it...

1. different CT types ( varying height )

2. Same CW type, but use fixed  of mullions ( horizontal)

3. One continuous wall from Level 1 to Level 6, with custom Grid lines.. ( this won't help, but can be made by just one wall )

Thank you for the reply but my question is not answered 🙂

The thing is that I have 3x types of different facade, the model is in the cloud and multiple people are working in it. To explain the size of the project: one type has 40 curtain walls if I would divide them by levels like you suggest I would have 160 curtain walls aprox. just for that one type so if for some reason something changes I want the change to affect the whole facade not just on level 4 for example. The coordination and work to make sure all these facades are aligned and correct on every floor is massive work. For the workflow and process of the project I want the facade to change on all floors, I want the mullions to change on all floors if they are to be modified.

If there is no way to export the curtain walls by building story like regular walls then we just have to accept that but my question is: Is there a way to make that happen?

Again thank you for taking the time to answer.

Hi
1. You can have same million types on various curtain wall type.. so changing millions will update all the curtain wall
2. You can use level to level curtainwall with fixed number of horizontal mullion.. one type of curtainwall .. this might be a solution where changing million or wall design will update all the walls
3. You cannot use a CW with fixed vertical distances between millions cause the level to level distance are changing... there’s a instance parameter for curtain wall for horizontal and vertical mullions.. look into that...

Good, thank you! The solution here is to have the facade go from level 1 to level 6 as a single curtain wall to simplify the workflow during the design process.
