Let's just start w noting that filters in revit are another one of those terrible ****ing features revit never bothered to think through.
I want to select a curtain wall and have it, and only it, appear on a given view from the moment I create the view and forever more.
1) If I simply make a selection filter I cannot use this filter in order to make it, and only it, appear as this is not how the VG options work. I can only hide or show this selection using the VG filter options. A third option - hide everything but the selection - would be an obvious addition here. In fact it would be more useful than all the other features combined. **** you revit.
2) I can Load Selection and then Isolate and then lock the Isolation. But if I add anything to my model in the future these items will also show up, leaving me with the task of cleaning up the view over and over again using this Selection.
3) I cannot create a rules based filter that hides everything but this curtain wall unfortunately, as the selection of the curtain wall in the rules based filter Does Not Work. The Type Name doesn't work, the type mark doesn't work etc... I really do wonder why saved selection sets can't be utilized in rules based filters. Then I remember, this is revit.
4) If I try to get around this by creating an assembly, well I can't create an assembly from a curtain wall.
5) If I try to get around this by selecting every item in the curtain wall and giving them a type or a unique name that I can then create a filter for, this becomes more work than the clean-up itself. Especially considering that I would have to go through the entire goddamn naming process with every filter.
At this point, this just seems insane. What do I do?
