Curtain Wall Door *cannot be loaded*

Hi! Struggling with the curtain wall revolving door. Following a tutorial, I try to insert a door by 'Load Family'. Now in my Revit there's not curtain wall door options like the guy in the tutorial has so I downloaded my own from NBS BIM and other sources but non of them seem to work even if they're in the same directory. Revit keeps giving me the same error - at first *Update message* - your software is updating; then I get the *Cannot Load Family Files* window that sais I have to choose family files of the category Doors - which I did?! Help pls

Hi @jeanebognar

The Curtain Wall Door cannot be placed like a standard door, into a "Basic Wall".

The Curtain Wall Door Type is placed into a Curtain Wall.  To Place a Curtain Wall Door, select a Panel of the Curtain Wall, if it is Pinned, Un-Pin the Panel and from the Type Selector, above the properties, select the Curtain Wall Door

Thanks for a reply.

Should have mentioned - yes, I'm putting these into a curtain wall. Watched numerous videos on this - not sure where I'm going wrong. Please see the image attached. I think it might be a problem with that objects from the directory are somehow not working as for other people. I keep restarting my computer but nothing is resolving this. Please see the pictures. The second picture - I tried to add the downloaded door to the original list but it is not working either. There are no curtain wall options in the original list eitherrevit rev door probs.JPGdoors.JPG

Okay great - I can open your file with the doors in it but still, I cannot 'Load Family' the same door! Can you tell me how you did it? I select Architecture - Door - Load Family - the door I sent you from the Door directory but still get the same message about the 'must choose family files of the category Doors'

Also, it is not possible to copy / paste or delete any of those doors.

I think you need to close your file then before opening tick the Audit box to fix your file errors. I already show to you how I do it in my video. Or open my file and cut and paste to your file and use the revolving door from there. Thanks

Another way maybe you have to create curtain wall it could be your curtain wall has a problem. To check this create a fresh curtain wall away from your model then dragging your revolving door and see if there are issues. Thanks

create a curtain wall first, then in its panel choose the door family to place it.

If loading problem? refer to this:

I created a new project, a new glass wall but still can't place these. I tried to move the door in the project you sent (it's not possible to delete them either.) I made your wall longer, copied the grid but still couldn't copy/move them. Other items or doors and windows on normal walls are no problem.

It's working now! After following this video I was able to swap the panel for the revolving door.

I'm betting that you were trying to place a Basic Wall-hosted Door in a Curtain Wall. In order to do this, you must first replace the Curtain Panel with a Basic Wall Type.   Then you can insert your Basic Wall-hosted Revolving Door in it.

How'd I do?

Idol @barthbradley there is no wrong with door, I tried and works fine with the curtain wall. I have the feeling that the curtain wall panel is pinned that maybe the reason she cannot swap with the door. Thanks Smiley Tongue

@ennujozlagam: I'm NOT using a Curtain Wall Door in the Curtain Wall in my screenshot.  I'm using a "regular" door - one from the OOTB Revit Library.  I thought that maybe the instructions that the OP was following, might be describing how to insert a "regular" door - not CW Door - into a Curtain Wall.  Maybe he missed the part about swapping out the CW Panel for a Basic Wall Type. That would explain the issues he was having.

HI there,

You probalby already found the solution but I thought I still want to reply. I ran into the exact same trouble as you. I only had the Australian library and it didnt give me the option for curtain wall doors. Anyways I had to download the US library and its all in there and no more trouble. Here is a video on how to download additional libraries in case you get stuck again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJoGA0dPJN0
