Curtain mullion doubles in quantity takeoff in massing

Hello friends,

Can you suggest me about Curtain mullion quantity while doing "material takeoff" of curtain system made by massing.
I made a mass of oval shape and gave a triangle pattern on its surface. Than on that pattern I inserted a pattern based family consisting of mullion on its side and glass panel at middle.
But the problem is I found at every point that the mullions are doubled as one family overlaps is its edge with another.
So how could I manage material takeoff of mullion to be exact value result.

Thanks

Hi

The Mullion should be in the curtain grids.. and not in the panels..

you can take the quantities "off" curtain wall.

the panels are of no use to quantify mullions... ( assuming you placed mullions in panel )

Cheers!

I am attaching my image where the mullion gets doubled in quantity..Please review and suggest once.

@Anonymous hello, can you create a new file , paste your curtain wall type and do the same as did in your other file and see if the problem still persist. thanks

Let me Establish one thing here.. Number of Mullion in Curtain Panelled wall is not dependent on

number of panels..

in the example below, there are total 12 panels, but number of sides / mullions differs.

( There are million ( not literally ) permutation and combination of arranging the panels when the number of panels increases )

Its just basic geometry, so Revit is not gonna solve automatically it you are placing mullions in panels..

Panels and Mullions Number.JPG

As I mentioned earlier, you have to use curtain grids, and mullions on those grids to get actual counts/ quantity..

and not from panels..

Hope that helps.

Cheers !

Don't use curtain panels to count the mullion.  Place adaptive mullions on nodes of surfaces and repeat them.  Some are you have to place manually if they are not repeatable.  See attached example.

Thanks for you suggestion.

I looked at your Rvt file also. Thats a good Idea.

But I have no Idea about Nodes. Can you please Introduce me about how you created that curtain sustem using Nodes or which process you followed.

I need description how to do...

can you please do a favor

Thanks

They are not from a curtain system.  They are adaptive generic model family, either repeated on the surface, or manually placed on the surface.  See screencast:

Yeah thats great, Thanks

I learnt the process, but how about if we place those mullion using pattern based family.

which is best process to follow.."Pattern based family of triangular mullion" or "generic model adaptive one".??
