Cropped RCP

Does anyone know why the RCP miss-behave on a sloped ceiling?  See in the screen shot below. This is a sloped ceiling with a rectangular cropped area. So far so good.

However, when I crop the area to isolate the external ceiling (also sloped), everything disappears. (even the structure) 

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

Can you elaborate on 'crop the area to isolate the external ceiling'? Are there two ceilings, or do you mean the roof. 

It might be your view range that is causing the issue.

I meant the ceiling. And by cropping I meant:

Non-rectangular crops are known to cause graphic glitches, especially when printing. Use a masking region.
