Creation of layers - quantities schedule

Hello all,

We want to create to the walls and floors all the layers that we will have in order to export the quantities of the surface.

For example, for the walls we want to create an interior  layer for the regine paint.

For the floors a layer for the floor tile etc.

Which is the correct way to do this in Revit?

I just need to add a thick layer in the composition of the wall that I already have or is it better to create a new thick wall-paint?

I don't have previous experience to do it, so I would like to know which is the correct way that you use.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @mairh_tsek

When you say layers are you talking about layers like in AutoCAD? Unfortunately Revit doesn't have layers but we do have properties.

What you can do when creating schedules is to filter the results.

You could filter it so it only shows walls of a specific level and on walls that are internal using the  function property.

Maybe something like this:

Filter.PNGThis will now only show wall areas for internal walls on level 0.

Hope this is what you where after.

@markcalloway ,

In the project we have different types of walls. Concrete walls with  thichness 30cm -40cm etc.. walls with isulation in the exterio side, having different thickness of concrete etc..

We want to add some material layers in the interior side of the wall, like the plasterboard, the paint etc.

Which is the correct way to do it? Is it correct to edit each wall and add in the structure the new materials that we want? [These materials will be very thic, so we are thinking to create a membrance layer]. See the images.

The purpose is to create a schedule of quantities for each material.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @mairh_tsek

Yes the correct way would be to make a wall type for each of your walls and customise the structure as appropriate.

Revit also has a paint tool which you can pull material quantities from:

Hope this helps.

@markcalloway ,

Thank you for your answer.

Is it correct to indicate the finish material for the walls/ floors in the properties of the rooms? Or the correct way is  to create a new type of wall?

Thank you!
