Creating Doors Question

Hello,

Got a curiosity question about doors. I need to create a double door so I am going to going to try and modify a single 2 panel door that came with Revit. For some reason, they didn't provide any double door versions for the stock door.

So when you open the family, there is a wall in the file that is part of the door creation, however, when you place a door in a project the wall is not visible. How is it not recognizing the wall? Is there some secret parameter that tells the wall to be invisible? Like I said, this is just a curiosity question

first, the wall in the family acted as a placeholder so you can add parameters. ex : the depth or frame projection.

second, is strange that you dont have at least a double panel door, did you install all the libraries when install Revit? if not, is easy to reinstall it.

Gotcha. So there is feature that allows you to to use something as a placeholder for sketching purposes?

I agree. Why is there no double door versions? I have all the libraries downloaded. Here is the door that I need a double door version. If you got one can you send me one. I need a 30"x80".

Thanks for answering my question. I do have all libraries downloaded. Just have to figure out how to change the single to a double.

There are several double doors in the OOTB library.

Yea. I got all those but I need a double for the 2 panel. I have attached the file. They just didn't bother to create a double door version.

Gotcha. If you don't want to create the family from scratch, simply modify the single door family to get rid of the frame, nest the single door family in your double door family, mirror it to make two panels, associate parameters, and add a frame.

You can also find the double door with different pane configurations via some door manufacturer. I think they are built better than the OOTB ones.

Yea. I was trying that but apparently stock families can't be modified. Every time I tried to unlock a line from the reference plane you get a warning saying you are not allowed to do that and everything resets back to original state. Unless, you know a workaround. I am not that experienced enough to create a family with parameters. Still very green with Revit.

There are some great YouTube videos that explain how to make basic doors in Revit. People will eventually answer your questions here but it'd probably be more time efficient to just watch the videos.

Try this.  Modeled using the method I said earlier.

Thanks! I will check it out. I have to do Civil 3D stuff before I can get back to Revit. I'll holla when I get a chance. 🤘
