Creating a Minimalistic Looking Window Plan View

Hey there,

I want to ask how to create minimalistic looking window plan view like there is for instance in Archicad (image attached). Because most of the time window families I use are looking like a complete overdetailed mess in plan views and setting the screen mode to coarse for windows does not help as it still looks pretty weird most of the time. Is there's a way to overlap every window family display with own custom graphics? Or is there any other way of doing that?

And my second question is if there's any Revit plugin for generating windows specifically like there is in Archicad where there are pretty basic settings for setting generic window from scratch. Or in Revit when you just want a simple generic window for a concept stage of a project you need to always create your own window family which take a plenty of time. I tried GEALAN windows add-in for Revit, but it isn't kind of what I expected.

Thank you in advance,

Nikita

in your family you can use visibility settings:

and in your project too, you can use it to adjust your details level.

and for your second question you can make a library and save all of your windows , doors , walls or what you want in there and if you need one you can load it to your project.

I also have a question: Why didn't you continue working with Archicad and come to the Revit?

Thank you for your response.

I supposed that there isn't a solution I was expecting, but I decided to make a try. Thank you so much anyway for your response.

Answering your question: I wasn't working with Archicad, I just know how this software works as well.

Thank you.

There are loads of OOTB family samples you can pick from and many of those are pretty much basic in Fine Detail Level and much more basic in Coarse.

There is no built in tool that generates windows. But you could set up a basic 1.2x0.9m curtain wall to look like a window and use that at concept stage

In the below GIF:

  1. I used a Basic Curtain wall with just a frame to serve as a subframe 50x150
  2. I set the default panel to another CW which is also a basic 50x50 frame with a glass panel
    • You can set it to add additional mullions as it is stretched wider or higher
    • Or you can set it to ad no internal mullions at all

Take 1 min to set up so I am not sure there could be anything easier

Thank you so much for such a detailed explanation. Then might give a shot at curtain walls for this particular cause. 🙂
