copy with base point

Is there a way in Revit to copy objects with a base point (like COPYBASE in AutoCAD)? I searched for this in the discussion groups, and didn't find anything.

Thanks,
Courtney

If the items are grouped, you can control the insertion point of the group, otherwise, no there is not a copy with base point. When copying, you can select two points, and one of them, if done correctly can act as a base point. Copying to clipboard has no such option.

So does this mean it isn't possible to copy with a base point between projects?  Only within a project?

Thanks.

No, it means that you cannot copy with base point.

I gave it a try and it looks like you can.  It doesn't work the same way as in AutoCAD, and requires more steps, but if you group items it appears that you can copy with a base point, including into another project.

As far as I know it cannot be done, but you can vote for this to become a new feature in Revit:

hi..

whatever you want to copy, isolate them.. group and copy into new revit..

( this works if all elements are similar, level based, or detail etc )

multiple category wont help..

if you have many elements, multiple categories, and want to copy in new revit file..

then best way is

1. isolate those elements, delete rest

2. now you have only those elements which you need to copy. ( revit file 1 )

3. now link that revit file 1 in new Revit ( ex Revit file 2 )..

4. after linking.. move to correct position, in plan, and elevation..

5. Bind revit file 1, so you will get a Group out of that link

now you may choose to ungroup it..

Best luck..

another way is to draw a line where you want the basepoint to end and include that in the copy. when you insert it you have a chance to move them as a "group". when you complete the paste you delete the line.

You can't copy with base point but you can paste aligned to current view.
