Accepted solution
Open both files in the same sesssion of revit. and copy / paste, ctrl +c then ctrl +v

What I like to do is create "detail projects" that contain standard/typicall assemblies, like toilet rooms(see attached) I just open them, copy/paste into my new project as the basis for those pieces and parts.

Sorry it was too large to post, if you send me your email I'll show you an example.

It's weird sometimes copy/paste works, other times it doesn't. Does it give
you an error message or just nothing happens? If you copy something then
close the drawing, then it won't paste it. You have to leave the source
open. It's not like CAD.

You could try grouping your layout, then copy/paste that group. You can
also save out your groups to a file, then import them back into another
file.

Part of the issue of copying from one file to another is the type of object you are trying to cut-n-paste. If it is a wall hosted object, like a wall hosted WC, it will not copy-n-paste unless you take the wall it is attached to with it. If it is floor hosted, the same holds true, etc.

You have to have both files open in the same instance of Revit. It looks that Revit is using some internal clipboard not Windows.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could send me an example of your detail projects? I have Revit 2017.

Thanks!

I am trying to cut and paste simple line work, but it wont paste into the new drawing.  Everything disappears when I place it.

Do you get any messages from Revit when you try this?

Rob

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

I've found that if you want to copy/paste annotations like linework or text an easy way to get it to work is to place an actual 3D object near it and then grab all the annotations along with the object and it will let you copy and paste everything.  Then you just erase the object.  Don't know why it works but I've been using this method since R13.
