Copy linework between families

Can someone who works for autodesk tell me the facts:

Can i copy linework between families or do i have to create it from scratch in every family.

I read a lot of workarounds and tried them but i have the feeling that the families get unstable using these methods.

As an example:

When i create a detail family is there an option to copy the linework to a profile family (safely!!)

The help file does not say anything about this (probably with reason)

I guess you are not talking about Line Patterns, Line Styles and Line Weights which can be copied between sessions using Transfer Project Standards.  What "linework" do you want to copy?

Copy linework from detail family to profile family or the other way around so i dont have to draw it twice. It works with copying to clipboard but i dont trust it much. I got the feeling that revit likes it best drawing new lines in every family. And what scares me people from autodesk never talk abouth this its not in the help file.

To a profile family? What do you mean?

How can i explain it in simple terms:

I draw with lines a detail family lets make it really easy say a circle.

I want to make the same circle as a profile family.

I want to copy the linework from the deatil family to the profile family.

It works if i copy and paste from clipboard but is this good practice ?

Or does it screw with my files in later stages.

Are you talking about a Profile.rft? You don't use "linework" in a Profile.rft. What would be the point?

Yes, it can be done, and it does not create any problems.

I don't work for Autodesk, though, so I hope you accept my answer. 🙂  

Suppose you are working of the roofing portion of your project. You need to have the geometry of a side view of a custom gutter in two different families:

1) as a profile family, to model the custom gutter. 

2) as a detail item family, to create a detail of the roof at the gutter, in a drafting view. 

So, if you are done with creating the first family, you can copy the lines, go to a second family and paste the lines, so that you have to draw that again in the second family. 

Select the geometry > Copy to clipboard > go to the other family > Paste > aligned to current view.

Now I get it! LOL! I guess I had a little too much "Eggnog" last night. Sorry about that, @MBBIM. I misunderstood "linework" as meaning a collection of styles, patterns and weights. I see you now, that you just want to copy the shape you made in a detail family to a profile family.  Yep, Clipboard Copy/Paste is the right Revit tool to use in this case -- just as Expert Elite @Alfredo_Medina said .
