Converting CAD Hatch Fills to Revit

Summary: Hi, looking for some help on how to convert a hatch fill (solid) with lots of curves from AutoCAD to Revit.

I'm trying to convert a logo from a title block which has been drawn. It's not an image. It has a very curved font and arcs, circles, etc. as you would expect. I know how to bring CAD into Revit, but when I bring it in, it loses the detail. It fills in holes in the lettering, drops the dot above the 'i' and if I partial or fully explode it, big sections of it disappear completely.

I've brought my AutoCAD title block in perfectly with the exception of this logo, but I've seemingly tried everything and it doesn't work. I've tried just having the generated line, I've tried converting all arcs, circles and lines to closed polylines. It's just not happening. Any help would be massively appreciated.

I would try the following steps:

  • in CAD file to erase all the Hatches and  let only the borders of hatches , or move hatches on a layer that will not be imported and preserve only their borders.
  • in Revit, make a new Family > Detail Item . Here , insert the CAD file - you can choose to explode or not the imported CAD file and make some changes (erase or add lines) .
  • Load the Detail Item into the Project as a Detail Component

If the drawing has very small lines and arcs then Revit will delete them when you explode. Create the logo in AutoCAD with proper layer and hatch, import it in your titleblock family, and keep it as is. Do not explode.

Although Revit does not accept verey small segments , it seems that there is a difference between minimum length of  segments in Project and in Detail Item Families.

I made a test from which results that in Project it is allowed a minimum of 0,8 mm , but in Family a 0,16 mm is accepted. (have a look at the attached rough screencast)

Thank you both. I'll have a go today with your suggestions and see how it goes.

Sorted it! Thank you both. It feels ridiculously silly to say it, but it was a simple case of scaling up the logo in AutoCAD. I'm guessing the original was just too small for any of the detail to remain intact. Once I brought it into Revit at that size, it was fine. Then I just scaled it back down in Revit by the same amount. It looks perfect now. I still can't explode it, because it disappears, but it's all good now.
