Controlling visibilty of Objects

Hi there,

How can I control the visibilty of a column standing partially behind a wall. What exactly I need is to hide the hidden lines that represent the part of the column lying behind the wall and leave the other part being shown.

Any Ideas?

What detail level do you have the View set to?  If at coarse, this is good, because you can set the Coarse scale fill pattern, in the tyoe propertis, of both column and wall to be the same, (Solid, Black).

If you join the Geometry of the wall to the Column, this should solve the problem, no matter what the detail is set to.

They are seperate objects. The column lies 10cm behind the wall, therefore, they cannot be joined.

Join geometry joins the geometry between two separate elements, if they were one element there would be no point joining them.  If what you mean is that you want them to appear as the same material, simply change the material of the Column to suit the Wall Material.  

I am assuming you are using a Structural Column as oposed to an Architectural Column, because when you join the Geometry of an Architectural column it should assume the material of the wall you are joining it to, if the family was built correctly.

What is your Discipline and is your Show Hidden Lines set to All?

The Discipline is set to Architecture.

But what do you mean by " Show Hidden Lines set to All" ?

It’s in the properties of view, just under the discipline.

Extra tips for you:

If you want to show the column behind the wall, use the Show Hidden tool under View Tab and click the wall, then the column. 

It will be shown in hidden line, which you can adjust the line style in Object Style, the Hiddel Line subcategory under Structural Column Category. 

You can can also remove the hidden line using the Remove Hidden Line tool.
