Control CAD visibility in a linked view

Here is the situation: 

I link Model A into B, and I used view template to control the linked model visibility. In the linked model visibility setting, I chose to refer to a ground level plan view in Model A which has a site CAD Dwg on it. When I use the view template on different level floor plan, the CAD shows up on all floors. The CAD link is only placed on ground level in the linked model, so I don’t know how come it shows up on upper levels. Is it because I’m referring to the same ground level view? Anyone has solutions? Thanks!

Is the view set to "By Linked View"?

Yes that is right.  When using "By Linked View" in Floor Plans, you are choosing to show that particular floor level in your host Floor Plan.

This has some distinct benefits, consider Having one Townhouse linked multiple times and placed on a site, where all the townhouses are different levels, by setting all of the links to "By Linked View" you can show the same floor level for an overall site without having to use multiple Plan Regions.  There are other scenarios where this is helpful like High-rise towers.

Any way, you might want to try using custom settings for Visibility.

Then Edit the Import Categories to hide CAD Imports

Yes & No. I do want to show the graphic in the linked view, but I only want to see it on the ground level.  I set the to a linked view, but I choose the view range to be controlled by the host view (i use the attached image as an example), so I think the CAD should not show up on the upper levels since it is placed on the ground level.  However, the view range seems like not to control the CAD.

But you selected a view in the linked model whose display settings you want to use for the linked model in the current host view.   Or am I misunderstanding you?

You are correct. Actually, I only need that linked view to be on the ground level, but I really need the view template to control all of the other Revit links visibility settings. That's why I'm struggling about this.

you need to have a different view template setting, don't use the view template you created to the other views. thanks

Thanks! I tried to use the host view range to control the linked view from the second model,  the view range can only control the modeling part but not the CAD dwg on the upper level. Can view range control CAD?

Why  don't you just go to the Link's Imported Categories Tab and turn off the CAD?

Because the CAD is in the linked model, which is controlled by the view template. I think I will give up on using one view template to control everything. Will use a separate one for the ground level now...

Or Un-Tick Revit links in the main template and create a View template that controls the Revit Links Settings for the upper levels.

You know, it seems that it would make VGOs a whole lot easier if you directly Linked both the RVT (w/ CAD Link) and the CAD into the Host Project -- placing the CAD Link in the Host's Ground Floor Plan View by "Current View Only".
