Conceptual Mass, Adaptive Generic Model Template

Hi everyone!


I'm trying to study this https://www.autodesk.com/autodesk-university/class/Automated-Linear-Structural-BIM-2019#video and reproduce this part here.

 

At this Step (2), it seems there will be a "Profile" nested into another template as "SuperElevationParameter" then nested into "3 Point Based Family".

This means there are 3 families in total.

 

I can understand the 3rd Family is based on Adaptive Generic Model template.
How do I know which template to use for the first two, which is the "Profile" and the "SuperElevationParameter"?

 

Also, what is the difference between a Conceptual Mass and an Adaptive Generic Model? I'm always confused on which to  use.

First, congratulations on your efforts for trying to learn from a mute video.

Have you tried posting your question in the comments section of that video in Youtube?

 

Profiles for adaptive families are usually generic models, set as workplane-based = yes, always vertical=no

The difference between the two templates is this:

  • The Mass template does not have adaptive points nor shape editing points. The solids created in this mass, when selected in a project, activate a tool called "Mass floors". In a project, you can create a mass schedule with areas of floors, perimeters, etc. for pre-desing, building planning.
  • The adaptive template has the ability to convert reference points into adaptive points. Volumes created with this template cannot generate mass floors in projects.
  • Both templates work in combination with other templates such as the pattern-based generic model template, and the pattern-based curtain-panel template.

Seeing that the first part of my question was kinda resolved on its own, I have another question to ask.
I'll post here instead of opening another thread I guess. (Please tell me if this is not allowed, I'll open another instead)

This is what I plan to do:
1) I'll model Profile A as Generic Adaptive Model. (Draft)

2) I'll then nest it into another Adaptive Generic Model that has 6 Adaptive Reference Points

3) I plan to place it onto various Reference Points obtained from other means.

Problem:

When I randomly place in the Family into a project file, it seems the Profiles gets fliped and the points are interwined.

What did I do wrong here?
If anyone has a better way to do this, I'm all ears as well!
