Compound wall visibility/behavior issues

Hello Everyone,

 

I'm having an issue with a compound wall behavior in section. I've got two wall types set up. Wall one represents a tile wainscot and wall two the wall base installed below the wainscot. Wall two shows both compound layers and the appropriate cut pattern in section. Wall one, however, does not show either the compound layers or cut pattern but displays the surface pattern of both finish materials.  Both walls have the same base constraint and an unconnected height but they differ in the following ways:

 

Wall One-

Base Offset: 4"

Unconnected Height: 3'8"

Materials: 

 * Substrate: "FINISH - Grout", 1/16" thick

 * Finish 2 (5): "FINISH - Wall Tile, Field", 5/16" thick, Wraps = Yes

 * Finish 2 (5): "FINISH - Wall Tile, Bullnose", 5/16" thick, Wraps = Yes

 

Wall Two-

Base Offset: 0"

Unconnected Height: 4"

Materials:

 * Substrate: Adhesive, 1/16" thick

 * Sweep: "FINISH - Wall Tile, Cove Base", Cuts Wall = Yes, Cuttable = No

 

What the heck could be going on?

Why can't you just have just one wall and split regions in the wall layer configuration to separate the base and the wainscot?

I certainly could do that. I need the wall base on other walls that do not have the wainscot, however so it seemed simpler in this case to seperate them.  Would that be contributing to the problem I'm experiencing?

I guess I'm misinterpreting what's going on then. What about creating Parts from Walls?  That resolve?

Good idea! I tried that too but it told me that it can't make parts out of these elements. So frustrating.

If so, I just overlapped and joined them in the correct order.  Join removes volume at union, so QTOs should be correct.

That looks perfect! Can you please elborate on what you mean by "overlapped" and "QTO"? What was I doing wrong?

Just drag the upper wall base down a tad so that it overlaps the lower wall.  Then join the two walls together - in the correct order.   That's it.  

 

QTO=Quantity Take-Off.
