Combining objects or families under one drop-down name

Good afternoon users,

I have been moving materials and families or 3D objects created in another software such as SketchUp, etc. into Revit.  Things have been converting fine and smoothly so far, except when I bring in an object with different patterns or colors, or sizes of the object, I just get one FAMILY ,in the Family list in Revit, instead of a whole list to select from like you normally do in Revit Families in the Properties Box.

Instead if I go to the Load Families in the Ribbon and open the Libraries, the list is there but it wont pull it into the Families.

How do I Combining objects or families under one drop-down name in the Families list in the Properties Box?

See screen shot.

Any ideas and direction is appreciated.

Thanks

Load the families inside the folder into the Project.

...actually, I think the issue you are having is that you are missing the Type Catalog for the Family.  Type Catalogs are named identically as the Family is named, but with a ".txt" extension. Type Catalogs must reside in the exact same folder as the rfa in order for them to work properly.

This is an example of a Type Catalog that appears when you load Dimension Lumber.rfa into your Project:

Do not open the family to load. Use Insert menu and navigate to the family, then a window will open to show all family types, you can highlight which ones you want to load in the project.  You could load every type but that would slow down your project if there are too many.  I use pyRevit > Family > Load more types tool to load addition types for families already placed in the project.

If you have Pyrevit plugin, you can load multiple families with their type catalog into project on the fly. Use this icon

Select the folder and load multiple families

Load All types per family

Your project browsers will have all the family type

You can download the Pyrevit plugin from this website

Thanks I'm testing the "pyrevit" add-on.

I appreciate the solution.

Thanks Brian
