Revit uses two types of columns architectural and structural. Load the family from the autodesk library you normally can find them in the subfolder "columns"  (architectural) and the subfolder "structural columns". All a bit depending on which libraries you have installed.

C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2016\Libraries\UK\Structural Columns

All depending on Windows version, Revit Version and installed library version.

This is a terrible way to work.... in Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Advanced Steel i'm able to pick any profile i want without constantly browsing through my directories.  Now i selected the UK librarie, i lost other columns in other libraries.

How can i select one standard HEA or HEB or IPE or UPN profile from one library ?

I do not know what you mean with " i lost other columns in other libraries." Yuo can load different autodesk libraries without loosing families.

You just have to get familiar with Revit. Depending on what you want you can setup things to speed things up. First you can make shortcuts to your most used locations (places).

If you use the same families in different projects you also can make a project template with different families preloaded

You also can make your own family library. If wanted you can move/copy families from the default autodesk libraries to your own library.

When i start Revit I only can choose 2 types of Columns this is a poor setup from Autodesk i think.

Then i have to search my Hard Drive to find the most common profiles, they are hard to find though.

When i add the family i found the above family is no longer in my list....

This drives me crazy.

I'm searching allready more than half day to find out how to insert a common HEA-240 inside Revit.  In other CAD-software you can do this in a minute.
