Collaboration structural ifc model vs arch. revit model - Best workflow

Hello everyone,

I am trying to do the best workflow for revit when I importing the ifc file from our structural consultants.

For example I import the ifc into the revit file. With the linework and view settings I can make the structural elements visible (beams like overhead lines etc.) but in this case I can't tag them...So when I want to tag structural elements I need to bind ifc model and in this case it's possible..But then I broke the ifc link and when I receive the new ifc model from consultants I must do the tagging again. The ifc files that we receive are from All Plan or from Archicad. It's not native from Revit.

By German standards, on the plans we must show all the structural elements such as beams, columns, steps in the slabs.....There must be a description for every structural element.

Question:

Is there any possibility to do the tagging without binding the ifc file? Thanks 🙂

Hi @Anonymous

Which version of Revit are you using?

Did you check IFC for Revit 2018 which is the latest release?

See article About Revit and IFC

Hello @Viveka_CD,

Thank you for the reply.

We are using Revit 2017 but I also tried to do that with Revit 2018 and I didn't make it.

It's not possible to do the tagging to linked ifc file except when I bind it.But in that case I broke the link.

I wanted to try using ifc linked file like as revit linked file.To get all the information from ifc file like it is revit file.

For example we work with the structural consultants that are using All Plan or Archicad and then they send to us an ifc file.

I come to conclusion that ifc file is the file that can be seen in a viewer just for viewing and in the Navis for clash detections and that is all.

Hi @Anonymous

Do you get a warning message when you link in the IFC file?

Did you use a model checker or an IFC model optimizer?

Can you send us a file to investigate further? I can send you a private folder to test.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
