COBie Export Question - rfa & COBie Parameters

Hello, I am trying to get a Revit Family to behave on COBie export.

In the model I have set up parameters that contain data to go to the COBie output.

First thing to ask – am I right to assume that in the family I should not name the parameters with the COBie prefix?  I have a parameter called ‘WarrantyDescription’ – in COBie that would be ‘COBie.Type. WarrantyDescription’ – the COBie-ised project adds the COBie parameters to the families when you import them.

Some of the parameters in the family get sent to the matching COBie parameters when I use the Batch modify in the COBie Extension, but others don’t.  I have tried grouping them differently in the model (change for ‘Other’ to ‘Data’ for example but they get changed back automatically when I load the family again.

I even tried creating the parameters in the family with the COBie.Type.** prefix but that only doubles up the parameters when imported.

I have tried parameter mapping in COBie – that doesn’t work (or I’m doing it wrong).

I’m confused and lost –

Thanks for your help

Hi @roger.hick

It's been and I just wanted to follow up here, any progress on this issue?

  • Can you check the parameter name - "WarrantyDescription" if its value type is a text and not an integer?
  •  Also, see NBS shared parameters to provide consistency when scheduling and coordinating information
  • Sometimes, due to the way COBie is exported some parameters are doubled up (Model, Manufacturer a good example). It is important that the families are built that if the user changes the primary parameter (in a project environment), the rest update automatically to prevent mis-specification and incorrect data. In Revit this can be done using Formula and conditional statements.
  • Below is an example of the warranty parameters

COBie.JPG

  • This video below explains how you can use the Parameter Mapping functionality to leverage your existing parameters in lieu of the COBie Extension default parameters.

  • Also see HERE for some tips and best practices around the Parameter Mapping functionality.

Let me know if that helps resolve your issue.

Please mark any posts that help with "Accept as Solution" and thanks! Kudos welcome.

Regards,
