Changing a Curtain Wall Window from one type to another

I am sure you can do this using some sort of graphic override filter but the help files are confusing me!  Situation:  I have a project where I am adding a further floor above the existing and which includes some room purpose changes to the existing.  Some of these existing rooms will require the changing of the glazing from clear to obscure for privacy reasons.  Yes, I could demolish the existing windows and replace them with new but this is not realistic and will show in the BIM Report.  I am using Curtain Walls for all the windows, existing and new, so therefore I want to just change the 'Curtain Wall Window' type from the type with clear glass, in the existing model, to one with opaque glass.

Question is, I think it can be done but can it?  An understandable explanation would be greatly received. Thanks

Create a new curtain wall window type and replace the existing ones with it.

I don't think you can demo individual panels, or even phase them individually.

You can draw an existing curtain wall, demo it, and put in a new curtain wall with the desired panels.

Or...

As a sort-of work-around, you could rename panel types to reflect phase. Have one panel type called "Existing Clear to Remain" and another panel type called "Replace Existing with New Opaque". Then when you create a material takeoff schedule for curtain panels, the Type field would contain useful information.

You missed my sentence - " Yes, I could demolish the existing windows and replace them with new but this is not realistic and will show in the BIM Report."

You have given me an interesting thought, can you nest curtain panels?

I realized that.  Do this:

- Make the cell to be demolished an "empty" panel

- Create a new curtain wall type with no mullions, only panel which is the existing curtain window type.  Place it inside the hole under Existing phase, CTRL+C to copy.  Then demolish it (it can be phased since it is the curtain wall, not a panel)

- Go to the new phase view and Paste align, change the pasted curtain wall window to the new type with frosted glass.

Yes you can nest a curtain wall as panels of another curtain wall but still, they cannot be phased.
