Cannot Select Walls (section or elevation) within Elevations.

Greetings Autodesk & Community,

My work recently gave me a new Laptop as my old one was getting too slow.

Today I went to create a drawing for a project for one of our Clients, and while inside my elevations on the drawing, I noticed that I cannot select the walls that I added. There are some shown in elevation view that I can see the edge of, and also some at the sides that are in section and are cut through.

Now, I have created hundreds of these drawings and never ran into this issue before.

So my thought was that, something got changes when I installed Revit 2023 (the old stores I created were in 2023 as well).

I did some digging and googling trying to find a solution, and can confirm that the walls are NOT pinned (even if they were, I have "select Pinned Elements" turned on), and I do not use the 'Design Options' and everything is in the Main Model.

Attached is a screenshot showing what I am talking about.

I clicked at the top right, and dragged down and to the left.

You can see my crossing selection window is highlighting all of the objects in the view except the Wall I am crossing (and the family object inserted on that wall).

Any suggestions on why I cannot select these walls?

As another test, I opened a project I had completed a few months ago on my old Laptop, and the walls are also not selectable, but they used to be selectable on my old machine (again, running the same version of Revit).

Thoughts?

Thank you,
Morgan

The file is too big to attach at 116.6MB (limit of 71MB).

Does that plan have an underlay and those walls are on that underlay?

Are the walls on a design option, when selecting try unchecking the box "exclude options" in the bottom ribbon.

Greetings Mike,

As I said in my original post, we do not use Design Options and everything is located in the Main Model so there is not an option for the 'Exclude Options' button in my ribbon:

We also do not use Underlays, so that is not the issue either.

This one has me stumped... I might just uninstall Revit, and reinstall it...

can you select that wall in a 3D view? and when you do does it show it selected in your elevation?

Are you working on a sheet and then inside the view?

Try exiting the view so you are in the sheet space and turn on the reveal hidden elements.

There may be a second view in the same place that is hidden. Hiding a view on a sheet makes it non-selectable and just hides the view title and crop region. Everything in the view is still visible.

Greetings again Mike,

Yes, I am working in a Sheet and inside of a View.

The Sheet has 1 Plan View and 4 Elevations.

The wall in question is selectable in the following: Original Floor Plan, Plan View on Sheet, and 3D Views.

The only place it is not selectable is within the Elevations on the same sheet.

Note that this sheet is based off of a Template that I have been using for over a year, and everything worked fine until I got the new Laptop, even though I am using the same version of Revit (2023).

I also did as you asked and within the Sheet (not any views) I revealed the hidden elements, and there was nothing hidden.

Thank you.

Also, I should mention that if I select it in any of the locations that it is selectable, and look at the Elevations on the Sheet, it is shown as selected, but if I go into the elevation, I still cannot select or grab it.

Interesting. I am also stumped.

Only other thing I can think of is to copy the elevation callout in a plan view to see if the copied elevation has the same issue.

You could also try duplicating the view in the project browser.

The view itself may be corrupted.

Hi @morgan.dentonJJXCT,

Try this; select the wall in another view, go back to the section (while wall is selected).

Then isolate the wall, and deselect. Can you now select the wall?

If so then there's a element obscuring the selection (a 100% transparant mass, or filled region etc...)

Can you select the walls if the view is wireframe?

vitorbortoncello, If you look at the screenshot I posted above of my bottom ribbon, you will see that "Select Elements by Face" is turned on, so that is not the issue.

ToanDN, the walls are still not selectable in Wireframe.

I sent the file to a friend, and he was able to select the walls with no issue, but then had a co-worker of his try, and the Co-Worker could not select the walls.

This is so strange... I'm going to try and uninstall/reinstall Revit and see if that fixes the issue.

Fingers crossed.

Select Elements by Face is turned off in the image you posted. Not sure if that's the issue or not, but its not on.

maybe there are two view on each other, for example one Area view and Architect View on each other you goes into the Architect view but the wall is in the Area view. post your list of views in the sheet in the Project Browser:

azadNanva_0-1718288028062.png

if your Area View id in Hidden Mode so it is not selectable .

Thank you everyone... I figured it out!

I had to enable "Select Underlay Elements", and it is now working.

Thank you to all of you for your help and time!

Cheers!
