Cannot modify crop region

Here is a view of which I would like to modify the crop region :

Crop region without handles.png

I could give a list of help articles that don’t work, but there is clearly something wrong with the view : the crop handles are missing and the ‘Do Not Crop View’ button is greyed out.

How can I make it so that the crop region is modifiable ?

The View is associated with a Scope Box.

You can either change the Scope Box to None, or open an overall floor plan where you see the Scope Box and resize it.

OK, thank you. That appears to be it : Scope Box needs to be set to none.

I a follow-up question : Why does the Help not mention that ? All those help articles don’t even mention scope boxes.

The crop region can also be frozen by being pinned.

And what do you do when for some reason you can't unpin it? This is the nightmare of Revit- there is almost no 'simple' issue which does not lead to going down some endless rabbit hole of permutations. It's as if the developers have no experience actually working in day-to-day architecture practice.

I was struggling to figure out why the viewports were cropped as well. I work very far downstream from the main Revit modelers and browsing Help & Tutorials didn't manage to touch on the scope box part, at all. Which can be quite difficult in a complicated and complete model.  Also the performance of Revit makes it very bad for experimentation, because each click of a command takes ages to complete.

Unfortunately this tip was useless. The "Scope Box" option is greyed out, so not editable. And it's set to "None"

Another possible block is working in a Design Option. You have to be in Model space to affect formatting.

You cannot disable a crop view once it is on a sheet.

If you remove from the sheet and go to the view, then you can disable it.

You have to have a crop view once the view is placed on a sheet.

No you don't have to remove a view from the sheet in order to resize its crop region.  I did not response to @Angayo because I had no appetite to his way of questioning.

When design options are used, I have discovered that a view cannot be cropped unless you are in the Main Model option.

Easy fix if you know where to go... Click on the house '3D View' and you can edit the scope box from there.

@ Autodesk - consider adding to the following Support article, including DC's commentary on design options.

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Crop-View-greyed-o...

@dc - thanks for the comment, this saved me a lot of time troubleshooting.
