Cannot Link Parameters to All Nested Families

Hello,

I have a text parameter that I want to link to another text parameter in my nested families.

I can link it to this nested family, no problem:

However, when I try to link the parameter into this other nested family, I cannot. All of the grey boxes under the '=' column are gone:

Does anyone know what's causing this and how I can fix it? Your help would be much appreciated!

EDIT: I should note, both nested families shown above are shared, and the parameters I'm trying to associate are both type parameters.
