Hi,

i am trying to edit the profile of a part and cannot because all of the edit features are gray. How do I edit the profile on this part if it is an assembly?

If you want to edit a part in place, you need to double-click on the part in the browser (or right-click -> Edit).

However, if you already edit a part in place and then right-click on the part in the browser -> Open, the part file will open in its own window and it will no longer be edit-in-place.

How do I find the part in the browser? It seems to be just the assembly detail views along with 3D and schedules associated with the assembly... There is no browser category for parts...

Assuming that the view is set to Show Parts or Show Both. You should be able to select the part, then do Edit division > Edit sketch. Then you can edit the sketch of the division, even if the element is part of an assembly.

I have to select the assembly to be able to edit the part, and when I do, I cannot edit anything - see the toolbar snippet above. There is no way to edit the profile of this part. The only way to edit it is by grips.

All the edit tools are grayed out.

You don't need to edit assembly, just the part. Make sure the view is set to show parts. Then select the part. Then edit.

It is still grayed out all the same, regardless if I am editing the assembly or the part. The tools are still gray and there is no way to double-click in...

Am I missing some other way of editing parts?

Is your view showing parts or not? For parts visibility, it needs to be in Show Parts or Show both.

Yes the view is showing parts. I can select the part, just cannot edit it.

I see that you are trying to do this from a detail view (part of the assembly views). Do it from an elevation view or 3d view.

Thanks! That opened up more tools, but still cannot revise the profile or "edit" it in any way regarding the openings. Double click or right click on the part returns no edit options.

What else must be done?

Click on a part. Then use Edit Division > Edit Sketch. Or, to create new parts, use Divide Parts > Edit Sketch.

That is the problem. Edit division is not allowable. It is gray. Other ideas?

No, sorry. That's all I can say without seeing the file.

Why don't you stretch the part using the grips?  There is no such thing as Edit Profile for parts.  If you divide Parts then you have Edit Division sketch (but it doesn't look like you did it).

And there is Division Geometry configuration but it doesn't look like you did that either.

I need to remove a piece of the cheating to create one opening out of two. How do I do this? I split parts and played with all the features of this element within that area and cannot revise the profile to make one opening out of two.

How is this done?
