Cannot Change The Color & Angle of Wood Floor

I have looked everywhere on the Autodesk site & the internet to figure out how to change the flooring in my model.  Can anyone direct me to actual directions on how to do this?  I have been messing around in Edit Type for so long with no results.  I've changed everything I can get my hands on with what I know to do and the flooring still looks the same.  Any help appreciated.

Are you try to change the Graphic Display (e.g. Surface Pattern Angle) or the Photorealistic Display (e.g. the Image Angle)?

You might post some screenshots showing us specifically what you are trying to do.

Of course I finally found how to change the flooring right after posting, but I still don't know how to change the angle of the planks.  Yes, I am trying to change the graphics.  I was hoping to just change the color like I can with some other things, but I guess I needed to change the image type for flooring changes. To change the type & appearance of the flooring I went into ET, then clicked to Edit the structure, then clicked the material drop down to open the material browser, then clicked on the appearance tab, then clicked the image drop down, then clicked on the name of the image type AKA the flooring type, then chose another type.

The planks are at a 45 degree angle for some reason & I can't see any place to change that. W/patterns I have been able to use align with a lot of success, but b/c the flooring is image based I must not be able to use the same techniques.

This is the flooring with the 45 degree angle.

Hi @liz.nahm1,

As @barthbradley, states you can define the angle of the image in the material texture editor

But it's easier when you use a Model pattern in the appearance and rotate those for the modelled floors, this will also affect the image position of the render settings in the material

Just select one of the model pattern lines of the modelled floor (with tab-select) and use the rotate, move or align tool to adjust the pattern angle/location.

With this you can angle/move the render apperance image, and 2 seperate floors can have different angles/startpositions.

Ps. ideally use a model pattern that represents the render image as much as possible, that way is't easier to align.

If they don't edit the model pattern of the offset/angle of the image in the material texture editor.

Below a sample with a floortype where the model pattern has been rotated, and the render image matches the rotation

Ai, that's not good.

I have seen several post about user with strange behaviour in the Material Editor.

On what Revit version and update are you on?

Is the Materials' Graphics tab like this all the time?   If so, I'm thinking hardware (e.g. video driver).  If your hardware meets specifications, I would open a support case on this through your autodesk.manage.com portal.

Ok, so this is maybe not an easy fix. I feel like I am constantly opening support cases. my coworker swears there is a magnetic force inside my body that causes programs to act insane, LOL. Thanks for trying. I'm using Revit 2025.1 and yes it appears that graphics is blank for all the materials I have checked!

Are you by chance using Windows 11?

Also, other things that could possibly have an effect are 3rd Party Add-Ons, although I highly doubt it in this case.  But, FWIW, check out this troubleshooting:

I am assuming that I would have needed to intentionally access add ons? If so I am not using them. Yes I am using Windows 11.

Not necessarily.

Hmm, it appears that Revit 2025.1 should be compatible with Windows 11 & this issue was happening prior to me updating to 2025.1. I have scheduled a support call so we shall see.

How would one use a model pattern v/s a regular pattern? I have fixed the issue with the graphics tab being blank the floor is still @45 degrees even after deleting it & redoing the flooring.  I am clearly doing something wrong b/c my flooring does not look like yours & there are no model lines for me to use either in the model or the type editor.

I had a call with tech support & we were able to fix the graphics issue, but not the angle of the flooring. They are looking at the model to see if they can find a solution.

My north arrow is set @ 45 degrees so I wonder if that is the problem? The patterns are not 45 degrees on anything else in the model, but they are all families so they might behave different than the flooring.

Attached is the flooring in plan view & what the material specifics look like in type editor.  I changed the cut pattern to vertical & the surface pattern to horizontal hoping that would help, but no change.

Hi,

Make sure the Foreground Surface pattern is a model type one and not drafting.

In a Non-rendered floorplan the pattern alignment and angle can be changed, see earlier  post.

The rendering image will align relative to this adjustment.

Holy crap I figured it out.  I changed the visual style to consistent color, which meant I could see the model lines & actually select them using tab as I have done with other things and as a few of you suggested.  I was able to select the model lines & align them to the correct orientation.  Thank you to everyone who added their two cents here.  I knew the solution would eventually come down to some very small thing that would take a moment to solve but that I just wasn't thinking of. I did change the pattern to a model pattern as well as suggested, changing the visual style was the missing piece:)
